“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren” Romans 8:29

he misinterpretation of the word “predestination” always comes from unbiblical sources. A lot of people believe that whatever happens had already been designed by God and there is nothing man can do about it. There is a need to allow the scripture to speak for itself. From our key scripture, the word “foreknow” is from the Greek word “proginousko”. “Pro” means before and “ginousko” means to know. The word has been used to describe God. Romans 11:2 says “God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew”. Also, 1 Peter 1:20 says “Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you”. The same word can also be used for man. Acts 26:5 says “Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee”. Besides, 2 Peter 3:17 says “Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness”. The summary is foreknowledge. The word “foreknowledge” is from the Greek word “prognosis” which means to know beforehand and it has to do with a specific knowledge and not a general knowledge. Acts 2:23 says “Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain”. The word “determinate” is from the Greek word “horizo” which means to mark boundaries; and the word “counsel” is from the Greek word “Boule” which means a deliberate wisdom or to purpose for something. From Peter’s explanation, it means God has marked out a plan. Here, Peter was not saying two things but he was saying that the determinate counsel of God is His foreknowledge. This means by foreknowledge, God delivered up Jesus to men. The determinate counsel of God was not to make men kill Jesus but He had a motive. Yet, wicked men took advantage of what was given to them. God’s foreknowledge was not to influence man’s action. It was seen in His wisdom. The foreknowledge was just for Jesus.
