“For
there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, that man Christ Jesus”
–
1Timothy
2:5
LIGHT
FOR NOW: By the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, He is the
mediator between God and men.
Prophet
Isaiah in Isaiah 59:2 cried out, “But your iniquities have separated between
you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you that he will not
hear”. This was in the Old Testament when man was still under the
bondage of sin. But thanks be to God, the death, burial and resurrection of
Jesus Christ has taken care of the problem of sin. In Romans 6:14, the Bible
says, “For sin shall not have dominion over you”. By the redemptive
work of Jesus Christ, He has now become the mediator between God and men. The
Bible records that God was in Christ reconciling the world – the world of
sinners unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them. God is not holding
sin against us because our sins were laid on Jesus. The Bible says that He was
made sin. He was not a sinner but the sins of the world were laid upon Him.
Nobody today should pay the punishment for his or her sins, because Jesus
Christ has already paid the penalty for sin. He was judged for our sake (Isaiah
53:5). Because of the sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf, the process of
reconciling man back to God began. Man had been separated from God through
Adam’s disobedience, but Christ Jesus reconciled us back to God through
obedience even to death on the cross.
Colossians
1:21-22 declares, “And you, that were sometimes alienated and enemies in your mind by
wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through
death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight”.
You are now qualified to appear before the throne of grace boldly without any
guilt, condemnation or inferiority complex. You have been justified by grace.
This is the gospel. You are justified not because of what you did or did not do
but because of what Jesus did. His death, burial and resurrection has
reconciled us back to the Father and brought us into oneness and fellowship
with Him.
