TRUE PROSPERITY

“And he went on to say to them all, Watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed; because your true life is not made up of the things you own, no matter how rich you may be” – Luke 12:15 (GNB).

LIGHT FOR NOW: Life is not defined by material blessings.

In his letter to Gaius, the Apostle John established the fact that God wants every one of us to prosper. He cares about you and desires that you prosper spiritually, mentally, physically and materially. He wants things to turn out well for you. He desires that you excel and be in good health always: “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John 1:2). But there is a need to know that prosperity is beyond the acquisition of material possessions. It isn’t defined by the number of cars, houses, yachts, jets or properties you have. Otherwise, those who have the most material possessions in the world would be the most fulfilled, but they are not. Many have been frustrated in life because they measured themselves by the world’s symbols of prosperity. They have not realized that prosperity is first and foremost a state of mind – a mind that is in contact with God. It is a life that is connected to God and has rest, peace and a sense of fulfillment. Life is not defined by material blessings.

When you understand this, whatever you have, no matter how small it may seem in the eyes of others, would be enough and able to accomplish all that God has called you to do. Whatever God has given to you is a seed. So, true prosperity is having the mindset that what you have is sufficient to accomplish God’s purpose for your life. Such an understanding from the Word of God helps you to be more balanced in your expectations and in your view of life. Plant your seed and it will produce a harvest. This brings to mind what Apostle Paul said in Philippians 4:12; “I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need”. You must learn to be content with whatever God has brought your way. Prosperity is not measured in material possessions.

INSTRUCTION: Be contented with what you have.

PRAYER: Father I thank you for every good thing available to me in Christ, in Jesus Name. Amen.
QUOTE: Prosperity is not measured by the number of material blessings you have.
