ALIVE IN CHRIST

“But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel”             2 Timothy 1:10

LIGHT FOR THE NOW: Everyone in Christ Jesus is free from death, sin and the law.

The word, ‘abolished’ means to cancel, wipe out and to remove. This means that Jesus had wiped out, cancelled and removed the power of death through His death on the cross. The preaching of the gospel is the propagation and declaration of eternal life. The gospel, which is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ is what frees men from the power of death (1 Corinthians 15:53-56). The Law empowers sin and sin empowers death. This means that death depends on sin and the law to operate. Death has been dethroned. Jesus Christ disarmed death by his sacrifice on the cross. Hebrews 9:26-28 says, “For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin, unto salvation”. Jesus did not just die but he died to wipe out the sins of the world. Everyone who is in Christ is free from the law, sin and death.

Ephesians 2:15-16 (NLT) says, “He did this by ending the system of the law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups. Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross and our hostility toward each other was put to death”. It is the transgression of the Law that makes people sinners. Jesus did not just keep the law, He took it to the cross and nailed it (Matthew 5:17; Romans 10:4; Colossians 2:13-14). God made us alive when He raised Jesus up from the dead. Jesus did not just deal with the power of death, but He took care of all principalities and powers (Colossians 2:15-16).  Therefore, sin has no power over you. Jesus used righteousness to judge sin (Romans 8:24).

INSTRUCTION:Stay in the spirit of life in Christ Jesus.

PRAYER:Lord, thank you for taking my place and dying for my sins, in Jesus name.

QUOTE: To be free from sin is to be free from death.
